Background

SAIKORE was founded by James Matheson in mid 2006. After many years of experience with building, using and championing wikis in software development, James saw that there was an opportunity to build a business that specialised in wiki technology. The time was right because wiki software had reached a tipping point in maturity and quality. In particular, the popularity of Wikipedia and the availability of WYSIWYG editing had opened up a huge new market for wiki software.

For many years, the wiki has been the quiet achiever of the software development world. It is recognised as a critical resource in many software development offices, but because of limited accessibility, until recently it had not spread widely outside technical circles.

This has now changed. Wiki software is mature, easy to use and poised to win the hearts and minds of knowledge workers all over the world.

In 2007 Kara Whittingham joined Saikore as an Education Consultant. Kara says "Wikis are a perfect tool for education.  The wiki is simple enough that teachers and students can master their use with little time or effort, and yet with thoughtful planning they provide amazing opportunities for teachers and students to learn how to really collaborate, an essential skill for today."

What we do

American biologist Edward O. Wilson in ''Consilience: The Unity of Knowledge'' says: "We are drowning in information, while starving for wisdom. The world henceforth will be run by synthesizers, people able to put together the right information at the right time, think critically about it, and make important choices wisely."

This is what your organisation can do with SAIKORE Consulting. Using carefully selected wiki technology, training and support, we can show your organisation how to put together the information and the knowledge that you need to capture in order to make important choices wisely.

SAIKORE can supply a full wiki application, beginning with an analysis of your environment, moving through the development of solutions and training, to the support of the final implementation. The wiki will be structured to suit your organisation and its needs:

  • Employees will know where to go to record their knowledge so that it is not lost,
  • They will have access to the most up-to-date information and the sources of that information;
  • They will know who to talk to about the information and where to float new ideas;
  • People will use the wiki to reduce email and to collaborate in building documentation.

SAIKORE's wiki solution will help you turn your information into wisdom and allow your organisation to make the right decisions, faster.

Why a Wiki?

Wiki technology allows users to add and edit content directly online. It is a simple concept and as easy to use as word processing software because of its intuitive interface and simple administration. When information is recorded in a wiki page, it is immediately visible on the network and any number of people can access it and edit it. Wikipedia is a powerful example of what can be done with wiki technology structured to a particular purpose.

Despite the simple concept and implementation, modern wiki software provides very deep and comprehensive features. Wiki technology has been evolving in the Internet ecosystem for more than 10 years and the key wiki features have been perfected. These include access to revision history, recent changes, full search, flexible access control, word processor-like editing, RSS feeds and tagging.

Wikis can be used to manage all kinds of information and knowledge. Within your organisation, wikis can be used to overcome a wide range of problems such as knowledge being lost when people leave, intranet information becoming outdated, people missing opportunities to communicate, failure to capitalise on ideas, the information overload of having to deal with hundreds of emails a day and the time wasted when people have to wrestle with conflicting versions of documents.

SAIKORE can craft its wiki technology to make an inexpensive, practical and easy-to-implement solution to these problems.
